2 Year Anniversary Gift And Plan Ideas?

So here it goes..
In a month, my boyfriend and I will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary (YAY!)
Since our anniversary lands on a Saturday, he agreed to cook for me on the Friday.
I told him to leave the Saturday plans to me.
Originally I was thinking of booking a hotel suite for him and I, where we can spend quality time together, have fancy dinner at the hotel, and perhaps sip on some champaigne while taking a nice hot bath together.
BUT! There was a huge flaw there that I just came to realize.
He doesn’t have his own car at the moment. He shares it with his brother. So for us to get to and back from the hotel would be a big problem since we’ll have no car =( His brother will not let us take the car for a whole day and a half…
I thought about going on a mini vacation, but he doesn’t have much money at the moment so anything to do with spending money on his part is a no. I am not generous enough to pay for his vacations AND his spendings on the trip.
I won’t want to cook him dinner since he’s already doing so on the Friday.
I thought about a picnic (i read this idea online), but since i live in Vancouver, our September weather gets VERY cold… I don’t think an outdoors picnic would be ideal here.
So my questions are, what should I plan for my boyfriend and I to do that day?
And, since my boyfriend probably won’t be buying me anything as a gift, should I buy him anything?
If so, should I get somethign small since he isn’t planning to buy anthing for me anyway?
