If you are absolutely sure that you did not have AARP in the past, you first need to call AARP and let them know that a collection agency is calling you on behalf of an account you never owned. Give them your information and they will be able to pull your account up from the past. If they find you in the system and you know for sure you were never a member, someone may have stolen your info and used it for themselves. If that is the case, inform them that your identity may have been stolen and someone may have used your name. They should have the address that was used on file. Then you need to contact the social security office to let them know. If you honestly think someone has used your information, then the next time the collection agency calls, you tell them that someone used your info to open that account and its under investigation. After that, they cannot call and harass you. You have to directly tell them “do not call me anymore, that is not my account”..They will try everything in their power like ask you stupid questions lile, “oh is your name not blah blah” and “did you not live on blah blah street” but dont listen to them. Just contine to repeat to them “do not call me anymore, someone used my name and its not my account”. Its important that you use the exact words, “do not call me again”…if they do, they can be fined and you can sue. Tell them if they nees to contact you, that you want everything in writing and to send it in the mail, but do not call. Its very important though that you report that someone used your info to open an account somewhere without your authorization..and keep up with the investigation…one more thing…if AARP cannot pull up anything with your name on it, the collecting agency is a scam and they are only trying to scam you into giving them money. This is when you need to get their company name and any contact info you can. Keep the number they called you fro and tell them you are going to report them. Then report them. Google the number they called from to see if anyone else has had the same issue with these people.

Next time the collector’s call, get their address. Send them certified mail saying you dispute the debt. They are required to send you contact info on the original debt. You might be able to straighten it out from there.
Or, you can try calling AARP insurance directly, see if they have a debt in your name. Maybe somebody else with the same name.
Also, you can go to this government site to link to a really truly free credit report. See if the debt has been reported there.http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/fr…
    Good luck!http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/fr…
