Can I receive an iKobo VISA gift card (they want my SS#) while on SSD & SSI?
A friend of mine (from abroad) sent me an iKobo (www.ikobo.com) gift card. When I went to activate it, they want my social security number and my birthdate. I know that it will go through the Government and they will find out I received this gift.
Do I have to report it to SS/SSI? Is there a min/max amount that SS will allow? I know that my bank resources can’t go above $2000, so is this the amount I’m allowed when it comes to receiving gifts if I don’t go over $2000?
Thanks guys.

I hope you didn’t provide your SSN. In all likelihood the card is a scam.
Once they have your SSN and account numbers they can empty out your bank account.
I am sure your friend means well, but a good rule is never ever ever give your social security number to anyone who contacts you. This is especially true of foreign organizations since many confidence men use operate off shore where US law and law enforcement can’t reach them.
Hope this helps
