Soon I will be flying from Tel Aviv (TLV) to Frankfurt (FRA) to Houston (IAH) to Victoria, Tx (VCT). My first flight is a Lufthansa flight, the second is a code-share (Lufthansa, with Continental as the operators), and the third is a Continental flight. All 3 flights will be Economy class.
With Continental, I am allowed 2 checked bags. From what I’ve read on Lufthansa.com, I am only allowed 1 checked bag. However, on Lufthansa’s checked baggage page http://www.lufthansa.com/online/portal/l… they have a box mentioning the Most Significant Carrier rule which, from my understanding, means that they would have to abide by Continental’s baggage rules since CO is operating my FRA – IAH flight (which means I can have 2 checked bags for free).
But, with the new Jan 24, 2012 thing, it seems as though the first marketing carrier’s (which is Lufthansa) rules apply throughout the whole trip, meaning I would have to pay $70 for an extra checked bag for each of the 3 flights.
I would greatly appreciate any insight as to which rule they’ll go by. I’m leaning towards the MSC thing because it’s actually posted on LH’s website and of course it’ll save me $210. But, I am not a frequent traveler and all this contradicting is beginning to confuse me. Anyone know for sure?
Thanks!

I know most airlines say that they follow the rules of whatever airline offers the most baggage, to offer you the most possible. So if CO offers 2 bags, that is the rule that applies. Also, when flying LH I have always been allowed 2 bags for long-haul flights. But don’t hold me to this.
call the airline.
