The court documents obtained by CNN also shed light on the issue of the first-term congressman’s record of offering support for Jackie Gingrich and the two girls during the separation and after the divorce.
The same court filing in which Jackie Gingrich told the judge she did not want the divorce also accused Gingrich of failing to provide enough money for her and her two then-teenaged daughters to live on during their separation. Kathy was 17 at the time.
“Despite repeated notice to plaintiff and requests by defendant, plaintiff has failed and refused to voluntarily provide reasonable support sufficient to include payment of usual and normal living expenses, including drugs, water, sewage, garbage, gas, electric and telephone service for defendant and the minor children,” she said in court documents. “As a result, many of such accounts are two or three months past due with notices of intent to cut off service and gas and electricity.”
When Jackie Gingrich and her daughters moved from their other home in Fairfax, Virginia, back to their house in Carrollton, Georgia, there were “no lights, no heat, no water, no food in the home,” former Gingrich friend and academic colleague Carter said.
Carter, who helped collect donations for the family, said Gingrich “wouldn’t give them a dime” in the first months of the separation.
“We had a food drive at First Baptist Church,” Carter said. “The deacons went down and stocked her pantry.”

A judge ordered Gingrich to appear in court a week after his wife filed her complaint. The result was a ruling that he bring the utility bills up to date and begin paying his wife $700 a month in temporary support until the case was settled.

Let me qualify my response:
I am a registered independent, that tends to lean fiscally conservative, socially moderate. I am NOT a liberal, and I absolutely believe Obama is destroying this country. That being said, I look at the first comment on this blog and am angered by the idea of “anyone but obama’. That thinking is why Gingrich actually has a snowball’s chance in hell despite a disgusting record of personal and legal discord. The citizens of this country have absolutely no memory, and refuse to research allegations for facts. Its easier to just fall into ‘herd mentality’ and digest whatever story supports how they feel. The ‘Anyone but Obama’ club should be ashamed for not demanding better. It’s cynical and irresponsible to support a dirtbag simply because they wear the same color sweater as you and can possibly oust the guy wearing the other color sweater. Frankly Dems and Republicans are both full of egregious moral, ethical and legal acts that get buried by a media that is simply a whore for hire to both sides.
I am not alone when I feel like by the time the primaries are over (which historically independents have had no right to vote in by the way..) all that’s left is a group of corrupt, rich dirtbags that you are required to pick the ‘least reprehensible’ candidate from the bunch. This is not how the architects of this country intended the election framework to run, but that’s what we have today. “Let me pick the least abhorrent, rich person. By the time these ‘people’ get to a recognizable level of candidacy, they have all long since sold their souls and have strategically buried all their dirt by greasing every palm that can wield a PR shovel. To that end, I have done the research and can say with conviction Newt Gingrich is a complete dirtbag. I come from a staunch Republican supporting family, active in campaigning for the Bushes, as well as Reagan. We’re talking generations here. I am the black sheep for being an independent.
Back when I was a kid, I went to a Gingrich book signing and met him. As he signed my book I stated to him how I thought he was doing a good job. He looked up at me and made a “Hrummppfffh” sort of dismissing grunt, as if to say,” what the hell do you know kid?” It couldn’t have been more rude, and let me see his true colors. I was in no position to help him, so why bother to be pleasant to a young boy? As*hole.
But before any of you mindless sheep touting the party line dismiss my rant as a personal vendetta, stop and look at the facts on this degenerate. This is a career politician with nothing to offer this country other than more Old Boy’s Club partisan bullsh*t.
As I pour over the other comments, it saddens me to see so many people flat out refuse to do any looking into the allegations, and simply dismiss the author with insults. YOU are all the problem, YOU are the ones that have given the media the power to influence public opinion, and become a tool for the corrupt to control through the power of suggestion. That is the definition of Stockholm Syndrome; vehemently defending your attackers/captors after being ‘programmed’ to support their cause.
I pray that Obama is bounced this year, but will not blindly back someone that is no better. I have not backed any candidate yet, still doing my research. Cain was probably the best fiscally responsible person to audit the waste throughout this beaurocracy we call government, but he left early due to his pants coming undone apparently.
