I’ve literally just signed up to eBay and admittedly I’m a bit of a newbie. I haven’t registered a debit card, yet, and I was wondering if there are any kind of subscription costs towards either eBay or PayPal? I realise you pay a fee for listing an item and when the item sells, but I was wondering what other fees I must pay? Or aren’t there any?

Paypal and eBay have no subscription fee’s and won’t unexpectedly charge you fees. The only time you will technically lose money is during payment either way. Paypal will take a small percentage of money that comes in through your account, and eBay will take a small percentage of money you send.
eBay and Paypal are the same company, so there’s no real difference here.
