How Much And How Often Do You Need To Put Cash Into A Bank Before The Bank Gets Suspicious…?

…of criminal activity such as tax evasion and money laundering.
I am not involved in anything like that, but for ages, I have been wanting to get a designer handbag. I dont think the shops like Harrods do the one I am after, but I have seen the one I am specifically after on the designers website. It is quite an expensive bag, but I have put some money aside for it from doing odd jobs for my family, birthday money etc. Soon I would hope to have enough to buy it.
I have money in my bank account just now, but that is solely for paying my accommodation bill at uni this year, and dont want to touch it. But I would like to pay in the money for this item into my current account (£1035) to buy it online.
I’m just frightened the bank will start querying it and getting suspicious. Is it possible to do this? And just how much and how often can you put large amounts of money in before they query it? Thanks

Banks have to report cash deposits of over £7000 – so you have no need to worry.

they would not get suspicious,, 1 grand is very little in banking terms so you will be OK. But One Thousand Pounds for a handbag!!!!! You need to take a reality check. You could pay two months rent at uni with that, have a holiday, buy a whole new wardrobe. It is 2/3 of your grant for a term. Stop allowing these people to rip you off.

The banks do report suspicious amount of cash under the money laundering regulations but your grand isn’t going to set off any alarms.
If your bank is rude enough to question you about it tell them it’s none of their business and take your money to another bank.

Get down to petticoat lane in london you will get a designer handbag for less.

From a police point of view anything over £1000 needs a reasonable explanation if the person is suspected of money laundering etc.
From a bank point of view, it will have to be much more and they too will have to have suspicion to look into any transactions.
I am a police officer now, but up until a few years ago finance was my main occupation. Since being a cop I have dealt with frauds where people have had 30k/40k upwards going into and out of their accounts on a weekly basis and the banks haven’t batted an eyelid.
I wouldn’t worry about the amounts your talking about, it’s nothing to a bank in the grand scheme of things.
