I find it very hard to believe that Social Security owes you benefits going seven years back since benefits can’t be paid more than twelve months before the month in which your application was filed. They may have determined that you became disabled seven years ago but the retroactivity is determined by the month in which you filed your claim. Like I said, at the most there is twelve months retroactivity.
Even so, if in fact benefits are payable effective seven years ago you will receive what is due you in one lump sum. However, if you are entitled to SSI they would not pay back benefits in one lump sum payment.
From my own personal experience I can tell U this much: If you were specifically awarded SSI/SSA payments STARTING 7 years ago then yes, you will receive 7 years of monthly benefits payments(the amounts of each will be different for each year) most likely in a lump sum payment within a year of the Social Security Administrations having processed your application. However, it is unlikely you were actually awarded this. More likely, you were awarded benefits as of NOW, with a possible back-pay amount of 18 months previous to the actual date the judge decided the case in your favor.
You will receive a letter in the mail stating what you will be receiving each month and what your back pay will be. If you used a Lawyer to help yo win your claim, then your lawyer will be paid first. Since this is SSDI you would get paid in a lump sum back pay. Sometimes social security will change your date of onset , when they think you actually became disabled, this will all be in your letter.
