I was reading this on military.com http://www.military.com/news/article/va-announces-new-payments-for-sex-organ-injuries.html?comp=700001075741&rank=2 about genital injuries and was wondering just how often does this happen? I mean of all the people in the Army and the Marine Corp is this a huge common occurance or is it just a few incidents here and there? I mean how likely is it to happen? Also with kevlar groin protection I would think that would protect a soldier in that area?
Also I googled kevlar protection for legs and groin protection and I am wondering why isn’t this stuff issued to Soldier and why aren’t they wearing it? I mean is it effective?

It isn’t a common occurrence, but it does happen. Considering the number of injuries from IED’s, etc., it does happen, but not a huge percentage.
And as to why we don’t wear kevlar groin protection, let me put it to you this way: A soldier, when fully equipped, wears a ton of crap. And that crap gets heavy! We have to carry our combat load, plus our normal issue, helmets, vests, weapon, on and on.
If you are already carrying around 30-50 pounds of crap, do you also want to get chafed wearing kevlar knickers because something “could” happen to your ‘nads? Honestly, the answer is no.
