Don’t say ‘when it prompts you’ because it doesnt.
During the payment method it just says pay by credit card…
I realize you need to have a card on the account to use the giftcard, and there is.
So,why can’t I apply the gift card??

It is very difficult.
From the checkout, look where it shows your billing address and credit card on file. Then select the button that says “add a payment method”. THEN a new screen appears with your original payment information, and you scroll to the bottom of that screen where you’ll see “Pay by gift card” and you click on that. Another window opens where you can enter the gift card information. (That might what you meant by having to register the gift card?) I don’t know what happens after that because I never tried to pay with a gift card at target.com even though I work for Target. That’s the ONLY place it allows you to enter anything concerning a gift card.
