How Would Someone Pay Money Into My Bank Account Safely?

By pay online Posted in: paypal

basically, i’ve sold something on ebay, the buyer says it won’t let her pay by paypal for some reason so she wants to pay the money straight into my bank account.
is it safe for me to give her my account number and sort code? (UK answers only please!)

It is very easy to pay money into your account if you give someone the details – it is also VERY EASY for someone to take money OUT of your account if you give them the details. Don’t do it! There should be no reason whatsoever for this person not to be able to use Paypal – if she has an account with Paypal and there is no money in that account, Paypal will take the money from her linked card or Bank account. If you are prepared to accept a cheque, let the person know, but state that the goods will not be sent until the cheque is cleared. You will probably not hear from the person again – if that is the case, file a dispute with ebay (non-payment).

Would you give a stranger your credit card number? Same principle applies here. If she has your account number, she has access to your account… to deposit or to withdraw.
If she can’t use PayPal, ask that she either send you a money order/cashier’s check (and tell her that she will have to wait for it to clear before you will send the item), or relist the item and find another buyer.

No, never give out your bank account numbers for this kind of thing. The usual excuse of scammers is that they cannot use Paypal ” for some reason “.
A totally legitimate buyer will be happy to work with you, if you explain nicely that you need a more secure form of payment.

No i really wouldn’t, its not safe abd your not protected by the ebay/ paypal guarantee. She needs to sort paypal or pay by cheque/ postal order. Make sure you check her feedback in case she has had this before.

    There is no safe way.
They can easily wipe out your account in a matter of seconds.
    Chances are…. they will.
