If You Suck At Credit And You Don’t Like Using It How Do You Go About Explaining This To Potential Employers?

By pay online Posted in: payment

I pay for everything in cash all the time, flights, my car, my apartment. If I can’t afford it, I don’t buy it. When I first tried to use credit ten years ago I felt like a real sucker. After I paid off all my debts I vowed never to use credit again as it is my nemesis. With companies, it hasn’t been a problem. Dealerships and real estate agents are happy to receive payment in a lump sum but potential employers want to see how I use credit and since I don’t, I fear I will be unfairly judged as unable to do a job which has nothing to do with using credit at all.

Employers are looking for bad credit having none is not the issue. couple this with the fact credit reports are primarily used in the financial sector and very seldom out side of it exceptions being places like walmart, you are being paranoid.

Employers do not view your type of activity negatively. The reason an employer looks at your credit is mostly to see if you are massively in debt, as people that are in heavy debt are a greater theft risk. Since you are not currently in debt, then you are not going to be as much of a theft risk.
A neutral credit rating showing no debt should not be viewed negatively by an employer.

Paying cash is a good thing. Congratulations on smart thinking. Just as a notation, there are special reasons to manage credit to your advantage. In renting a car or hotel, a credit card is an advantage of not needing a cash deposit. There are credit cards with rebates that when balance paid fully as due share in the fees that merchants pay. If/when looking to buy a house or condo, credit may be necessary. When it comes to employers, they are mostly concerned with potential theft and embezzlement and selling of company secrets, and as such are concerned very much with people who are overextended in credit. A simple explanation of a low credit score for no credit taken is normally OK by employers. If you take a job involving business travel, they may offer a company credit card for accounting simplicity, or not offer cash advances but would reimburse you. You may need to be prepared for cash outlays if you don’t have personal credit available. But, I have not heard of companies having issues of hiring a person for lack of credit – only for bad credit which are too different things.
