it is haram for a muslim person to deal with interest it is clearly stated in the quran and comes in many ahadith aswell. there are 2 possible things to do:
1. change your bank account type to one which doesnt give you interest. there are many types available now such as hsbc amanah account or islamic bank of britain accounts etc. This would obviously be the best option.
2. you stick with the account you have put you keep a close record of all the interest that is being accumulated in your account. every single penny of this interest should be taken out as soon as you can and must be given as sadaqa for poor and needy people. it must go to the poor people you cannot even donate it to a mosque. you most definitely cannot use any of that interest money for yourself.
Insha Allah this helps.
When I opened my current bank account, I told the bank employee that I wanted an account that did not earn interest. I did this at another bank also a couple years ago. Both times, this prompted the bank employees to be both amused and curious because most people want the interest earning accounts, so I told them it was against my religion to earn interest, which caused them to ask me about my religion and might cause them to look more into Islam.
Ask the bank or credit union if they have accounts that do not earn interest or offer you any reward. Hopefully, they or another bank or credit union will have one available. If not, take the interest and donate it to charity.
Salam. All forms of interest are Haram. You should contact the bank and ask them to not pay any interest on your account. Generally, they should (happily) agree. Otherwise, it is best to make a new account with a bank who will allow you not to receive any interest, although its best not to have any (or as little as possible) dealings with banks – since they are places of evil/interest/usury.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَذَرُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
2:278. O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh and give up what remains (due to you) from Ribâ (usury, interest) (from now onward), if you are (really) believers.
Muslims forbid earning interest. All Banks pay interest in the UK. The only bank that does not is the IBB, the Islamic Bank of Britain. So if you feel really strong about this religiously, then you should join this bank.
whatever interests you get from the bank, just get rid of it by taking it out and giving it to someone in need without any intention of getting a reward of it,,,
all interests are haram whatever they may call it…
I cant remember which one, either Islamic Aid or Muslim Aid accept collected interest earnings and use it in a halal way (they say they use it for life-threatening situations)
Salaam
Lol at “young sister”
I’m not British, but I know that there really aren’t that many Islamic banks over there. How about you just donate the interest they give you? (:
Peace & Ramadan Mubarak!
