I just tried to buy something on eBay, & it told me that I had ‘bought’ it, but I don’t have a Paypal account & can’t pay for my item. Am I going to be in any trouble, legal or otherwise?

No….while in ebay, click on the paypal link and just create an account. You have to have a credit card or bank account to do this. If you don’t have either, than you will have to contact the seller and tell them you can’t pay and need to cancel the transaction. The worst that will happen is you will get a negative feedback on your ebay account.
just open a paypal account
if you can’t, then just contact the seller outside of ebay, and tell them the situation. if you contact them inside of ebay, it will be evidence against you and ebay will see it as your fault and you won’t be able to appeal and unpaid item strike.
if you can’t just find a way to pay for the item, just send them another email outside of ebay and ask them to cancel the transaction so the seller can get their fees back and they can relist with no charges, and you won’t get an unpaid item strike
if you get an unpaid item strike, just leave the seller a negative feedback and contact them outside of ebay to correct the situation. you can either appeal the unpaid item strike with ebay by stating their is something wrong with the description or you have computer problems, or u can make a deal with the seller about removing the negative feedback.
Best thing is to open a pay pal account and if you have no credit card or bank account you can get a prepaid visa card or American express card at walmart this way you will be covered under. paypal buyer protection in case something goes wrong you will get your money back then.
